Hello Everybody!
I apologize for the delay in meeting minutes!! However, things have been progressing as usual here is what we've been discussing the past few weeks!
3.9.11
Mary Ann Shaw Dinner: Table Center Pieces
· Plant boxes
· Tubes:
o Flowers are expensive
Maybe do paper flowers or origami flowers
Tissue paper flowers
· Possibly cut them on the laser cutter to make them more elegant
· Alison will try and get some cut flowers done over spring break as a sample
Still nature orientated but cheaper and also something people can take home
Jen, Markie, and Jen
· Met last week and it went well
· Wayne likes what is on the brochures now and is really excited about the March 30th dinner
o Also Wayne supports the look of the kids on the back of the pamphlet even though its very literal
· The only thing we have left to get is the list of collaborators to finish off the pamphlet and then its ready to print!
· Maybe make the pamphlet bigger for the table display just so people could see it
o Printing the center pieces on the sticker paper to save time and money rather than screen printing them
Solidified some things on looking at the site evaluation
· Things we can feasibly do
· Jen and Markie are going over the entrance design
o Come up with a reception for upstairs and try and sell it to Wayne so that we don’t have to take away from the design of the entrance by having the sign in area downstairs
o Adding a bench to the bottom of the letters
o Using bendy board to wrap around the structure of the letters to get them to look like solid objects without having to waste material on actually making them solid
Talk to a fabricator to find a better way to create this kind of case work
Do some basic elevation and construction documents to give to the fabricator
A cabinet shop would be more likely to do this than a construction company: they may write up their own plans too.
· What is the process of adding dry wall ceiling
o Support system
o Tricky to remove the existing ceiling tile
We’ll have to get a contractor to look at it (and at the floor too)
There is concrete under the ceramic tile
· Wayne is cool with taking the tile off and then we can paint the lines directly on the concrete.
Becky drew up some more sketches to elaborate on her library benches
· Adding a back for support
· Figuring out structural supports
Exploring the College Room
· Don’t understand their options
o Make it an attainable choice in their life
Ask Wayne for a list of Hillside Graduates that did go to college and ask them for some advice on how to get into college
· Next Step: Make these ideas visual: have some sketches and ideas Wayne can react to.
In two or three weeks we should have another meeting with Wayne
· Show him some sketches of our ideas for the college room and some of our other ideas
Regroup on Wednesday after school break
